On behalf of our esteemed client, a national leader in industrial manufacturing and custom-engineered solutions, we are sourcing a dedicated Legal Advisor with a specialisation in Compliance and Risk to join their team in Bloemfontein.
This is a critical role focused on embedding a robust legal and regulatory compliance framework across the Group's operations in South Africa and internationally. The ideal candidate will be a proactive professional dedicated to mitigating risk, upholding ethical standards, and fostering a strong culture of compliance throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance Framework & Policy: Design, draft, and implement internal policies, procedures, and controls to ensure alignment with all legal and regulatory requirements. Conduct comprehensive compliance risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential exposures.
Commercial & Contractual Oversight: Vet, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, ensuring all terms and conditions are robust and compliant. Provide expert legal opinions on corporate and commercial matters.
Training & Advisory: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on compliance policies, regulatory changes, and ethical standards. Advise management on the impact of changing legislation on business operations.
Risk Management & Reporting: Manage litigation and dispute resolution processes, oversee debt recovery, and conduct credit searches for risk assessment. You will be responsible for drafting detailed weekly/monthly reports covering compliance, litigation, and risk.
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key advisor to senior management and the Board of Directors. You will also manage the record-keeping and minute-taking for Credit Committee meetings, ensuring accurate documentation of key decisions.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
LLB Degree. An Admitted Attorney is highly preferred.
A minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in a legal role.
A strong background in legal compliance, risk management, and commercial law is essential.
Proven experience in developing and implementing compliance monitoring programs, policies, and procedures.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.
A high level of determination and the ability to work independently.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
