Civil Engineer

Role Overview   

To develop, review Civil & Structural Engineering outputs and ensuring procedural compliance, additionally, providing technical support and the coordinating of engineering activities with all disciplines and supporting construction. The role will requires managing and accountability for the efficient delivery of engineering in accordance with procedures and standards. Be accountable for engineering efficiency of quality delivery within programme and budgets. Provide input into the preparation of engineering estimates and working alongside project controls and planning groups to ensure efficient project execution and department audits.   

Key Responsibilities   

• Designing heavy industrial foundations and structures such as Pipe Racks, Equipment Foundations, Equipment Structural Supports, Pipe Supports  

• Provide technical support, leadership, and knowledge  

• Preparation of all key design deliverables  

• Manage multi - discipline co - ordination  

• Provide support to project controls, estimating, planning for efficient project execution  

• Provide engineering support for detailed Civil and Structural & temporary works design  

• Provide engineering input to Project Execution Plans and other project specific documentation  

• Review vendor/third party drawings and assess their impact on the project  

• Provide technical/practical construction support to the project site team  

• Provide input into HSSE and Quality deliverables at project level  

• Maintaining close contact and building relationships with both internal and external personnel  

• Writing specifications and reviewing project documents prior to issue for scope and presentation, including checking for technical accuracy  

• Ensuring all deliverables are completed on time, on budget, and exceed quality standards  

• Developing and maintaining positive communication channels with clients and internal BECM personnel to ensure that work flows smoothly as well as providing first class engineering services  

• Efficiently and effectively managing multiple tasks independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment  

• Managing and mentoring Junior level Engineers and Designers  

• Produce and deliver documents and designs in accordance with engineering procedures, guidance notes and training  

• Preparation of drawings using AutoCAD or equivalent  

• Awareness of Safety by Design; interface with the Principal Designer and prepare designers risk assessments  

Desired Skills and Experience  

• Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university with P.Eng designation or ability to register as a Professional with EGBC  

• A minimum 8 to 10 years’ experience in structural engineering design within mining, energy and/or industrial projects of varying stages from conceptual to detailed design  

• Capable of developing creative yet practical design concepts  

• Experience in writing technical reports, specifications, and in preparing the material take-offs  

• Experience in technical evaluations of construction contracts and material / equipment supply contracts 

• Excellent organizational, technical, communication and computer skills  

• Experience within Civil / Structural Engineering  

• Knowledge of engineering specifications and standards  

• Proficient in civil/structural engineering and general document production software [STAAD, ETAB etc]  

• Experience in a design engineering environment (preferred)  

• Knowledge of oil and gas related engineering specifications and standards (preferred)  

• Capable of developing creative yet practical design concepts  

• Experience in writing technical reports, specifications, and in preparing the material take-offs  

• Experience in technical evaluations of construction contracts and material / equipment supply contracts  

• Excellent organizational, technical, communication and computer skills
