HSEQ Officer

Role Overview- (Project Based)

The HSEQ Officer will work with company personnel to support company operations through enforcement of contractor compliance with The OSH Act 2004 (as amended) and ensure Compliance with industry HSEQ Policies and Procedures. 

Key Responsibilities

• Advocate compliance with regulatory and client health and safety requirements. 
• Prepare and communicate accurate safety statistical information and analysis, incident reports, lessons learned. 
• Provide expertise on hazard identification and risk mitigation processes. 
• Ensure health and safety systems, policies, procedures, and programs used to manage jobs are understood and are utilized by client and contract personnel. 
• Participate in audits, action item closure, HSEQ Training, safety meetings, incident investigations, contractor workforce HSEQ inspections. 
• Assist with incident management plan activities including implementation, training, and response. 
• Work closely with contractor representatives and their workforce to ensure adherence to HSEQ plans and manage any HSEQ interface issues. 
• Experience in hazard identification, job safety analysis, incident investigations, and permitting. 
• Demonstrate competency in core safety programs, including Permit to Work; Energy Isolation; Confined Space Entry; Working at heights; Lifting Operations; and Driving Safety. 
• Participating in JSAs and Toolbox Meetings. 
• STOP any unsafe work and ensure that all workers understand that they are empowered to do so as well. 
• Regularly review the management of HSSE risks in project activities and, where necessary, intervene and take actions to ensure effective continuous improvement of HSSE performance.  
• Work closely with other functional stakeholders to support/promote HSE improvements. 

Desired Skills and Experience

• BSc. Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering OR Natural Sciences OR
• NEBOSH General Certificate OR Diploma. 
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health, the OSH Act 2004 (as amended)
• Knowledge of ISO 45001, 9001 and familiarity with STOW will be considered an asset.  
• At least 3-5 years of relevant experience petrochemical environment or industry.  
• Any other equivalent combination of qualification and experience.
