Accounting Manager

Job Description

Reporting to the Controller, the GAAP Accounting Manager is responsible for leading and executing core accounting functions in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role oversees daily operations, ensures accuracy in financial reporting, and manages a high-performing accounting team.

This position may be performed in office or remotely.  If remote, the Accounting Manager must be able to commute to the office for one week each quarter (4 trips each year) for quarter-end activities and team-building exercises. The majority of our team works remotely.

Daily oversight responsibilities includes:

• Month-end and year-end close processes
• Accounts payable and receivable
• Cash receipts and disbursements
• General ledger maintenance
• Expense accruals and prepaid accounts
• Fixed asset tracking
• Commissions and premium refunds
• Trust and operating account reconciliations
• Claims check runs and credit card expense management
• MGA transfer templates, escheatment, and 1099 issuance
• Execution of wire transfers
• Generate ad hoc reports for management
• Compliance with federal and state regulations including coordinating audit examinations with internal and external auditors

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• At least 5 years in a management or supervisory accounting role
• Previous Public Accounting experience STRONGLY preferred
• CPA license STRONGLY preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles
• Experience with bank reconciliations, general ledger, claims reporting, and reinsurance
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and adaptable to new technologies
• Excellent multitasking and prioritization skills
• Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Ability to interpret complex data and regulatory materials
• Build and maintain positive relationships with staff and clients
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
