Water Management and Geotechnical Engineer (Transition Metal/ Geotechnics/ Hydrogeology) – Oceania

Our client is looking for a Water Management and Geotechnical Engineer who will be responsible Geotechnical Manager for ensuring the safe and sustainable operation of mining activities. You will be responsible for anticipating, planning, and supervising stability studies for critical structures within the mine, such as slopes, and devising strategies to enhance geotechnical criteria for the design of mining operations. Collaborating closely with cross-functional mining teams, you will play a crucial role in mitigating risks associated with land stability and water management.

Responsibilities:

• Anticipate, plan, and oversee stability studies for significant mine structures, proactively addressing potential issues related to slopes and other crucial elements.
• Develop plans for maintaining or enhancing geotechnical criteria, influencing the design of mining works for improved safety and efficiency.
• Strategize, coordinate, and supervise the installation of monitoring equipment like piezometers, inclinometers, and pore pressure cells, alongside conducting geotechnical investigations such as geophysical surveys and tests.
• Formulate comprehensive plans for managing surface water and ensuring site stability, thereby contributing to effective mining operations.
• Conduct field inspections, instrumental surveys, and risk assessments related to collapse and landslides, ensuring thorough analysis and assessment.
• Define and validate action plans to manage significant risks, efficiently communicating these plans to relevant teams.
• Collaborate adeptly with other mining teams to share identified risks and implemented control measures, fostering effective risk management throughout the operation.
• Oversee the execution of action plans and monitor their implementation, making necessary adjustments as required.
• Maintain and enhance quality documentation related to collapse/landslide risks and water management strategies, including land stability management plans and associated records.
• Manage contracts with geotechnical study offices and various service providers, ensuring the successful execution of instrumentation and geotechnical investigations.
• Demonstrate strong internal and external communication skills, effectively addressing water management and land stability matters.

Required Experiences and Skills:

• Hold a higher education diploma in geotechnics, geosciences, or a related field, coupled with over 10 years of professional experience.
• Possess significant hands-on experience in geotechnics or geology, with additional skills in hydrogeology considered advantageous.
• Display the ability to lead and manage a team of technicians or subcontractors, driving collective success.
• Proficiently use computer tools, particularly MapInfo, Surpac, and Microsoft Office suite, to analyze and present data effectively.
• Possess basic proficiency in the English language to facilitate communication with diverse stakeholders and utilize relevant software tools. French is preferred.
