HSETQ Superintendent – (HSETQ / Health & Safety / Environment / Training / Quality / Underground Mining) – Africa

Job Description:

Our client, an international mining contractor operating across Africa, is seeking an experienced HSETQ Superintendent to join their site leadership team in various sites in Africa. Reporting to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the company's Health, Safety, Environment, Training and Quality (HSETQ) Management System, ensuring compliance with company standards, legislative requirements and contractual obligations. The role provides governance, assurance and professional guidance to operational leadership while driving continuous improvement, risk management and operational excellence across the mining operation.

Responsibilities:

• Implement and maintain the company's Health, Safety, Environment, Training and Quality (HSETQ) Management System in accordance with company standards, legislative requirements and contractual obligations.
• Provide professional HSETQ advice and guidance to operational leadership to support safe, compliant and efficient mining operations.
• Monitor the effectiveness of HSETQ systems and recommend improvements to strengthen governance and operational performance.
• Develop, maintain and review HSETQ procedures, standards, registers and documentation in line with the Integrated Management System.
• Facilitate operational risk assessments, Management of Change (MOC) processes and critical control verification activities.
• Develop and coordinate site audit, inspection and assurance programmes to verify compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Identify competency gaps and support operational leadership in developing workforce capability.

Qualification and Skill:

• Minimum 7 years' experience in Health, Safety, Environment, Training or Quality roles within an underground hard rock mining environment.
• Previous experience in a senior HSETQ leadership, governance or assurance role.
• Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Training, Quality Management, Mining or a related discipline.
• Experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 management systems would be advantageous.
• Formal incident investigation training (ICAM, TapRooT or equivalent) is highly desirable.
• Previous experience within an African mining contractor environment would be advantageous.
• French language skills would be beneficial.
