ML Ops Engineering Manager

ROLE SUMMARY:

This role leads the delivery and operational excellence of ML Ops capability — the infrastructure, pipelines, and practices taking ML/AI models from development into reliable, governed production use. It manages a team of ML Ops engineers and partners with Data Science, Data Engineering, Platform, and Governance teams. The role must be senior enough to hold its own in conversations with Data Science and AI leadership and to lead and develop a team — this is not a hands-on-only individual contributor role stretched into a manager title.

What's critical for this role (beyond the base JD)

• Hands-on ML Ops / ML engineering technical depth: real experience with CI/CD, containerization, and orchestration specifically for ML workloads (not generic app DevOps), and operating model registries/monitoring tooling in production — this is a technical leadership role, not a people-manager-only role.
• Direct people management: has actually managed a team of engineers (headcount, hiring, mentoring, performance management) — not just led a project or workstream without formal reporting lines.
•  Seniority for stakeholder leadership: evidence of representing ML Ops/engineering in senior stakeholder conversations (e.g., with Data Science/AI leadership, presenting to Directors/VPs, owning escalations and trade-off decisions) — the CV should show this is a leadership role, not a senior-IC role in disguise.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and Databricks-based ecosystems.
• Experience operating model registries, monitoring tooling, and ML pipelines in enterprise environments.
• 7-10+ years total experience in MLOps, ML engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering, including team or delivery leadership.
• Strong stakeholder management across data science, engineering, platform, and governance teams
• Experience supporting AI/ML programs in retail, consumer goods, or other data-intensive industries.
• Familiarity with LLM/GenAI deployment patterns and evaluation practices.
•  Exposure to enterprise data governance and AI risk/compliance frameworks.
