Job Description

The Role

Depending on your experience, responsibilities will include:

• Providing specialist advice on complex Australian GST and indirect tax matters.
• Advising clients on the GST implications of transactions, restructures and M&A activity.
• Managing complex GST advisory, compliance and risk management projects.
• Assisting clients with GST governance frameworks, assurance reviews and risk assessments.
• Managing GST matters involving the Australian Taxation Office, including reviews and other regulator engagement.
• Undertaking GST due diligence and identifying potential tax exposures associated with transactions.
• Advising clients across areas including property, financial services, digital services and cross-border transactions.
• Working with tax technology specialists to improve GST processes, data analysis, reporting and automation.
• Managing senior client relationships and explaining complex GST issues in a clear and commercially focused manner.
• Leading and mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continued growth and development of the practice.
• At Director level, taking a broader role in business development, client origination and practice growth.

About You

To be considered, you will ideally have:

• Significant experience in Australian GST / indirect tax, gained within a Big 4, mid-tier accounting firm, law firm, corporate tax function or similar environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of Australian GST legislation and its practical application.
• Experience across GST advisory and compliance, with exposure to areas such as GST governance, transactions/M&A, ATO engagement or tax technology highly regarded.
• Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to manage complex engagements and multiple competing priorities.
• Experience leading, coaching and developing junior team members.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Law or a related discipline.
• For Director-level candidates, demonstrated business development and senior client management capability will be highly regarded.

Australian GST experience is essential.
