Legal Advisor – Pretoria FTC

Our client is a recognised professional body, is seeking a Legal Advisor on a 4-month fixed-term contract to support its legal, disciplinary, and governance functions.

This role is suited to an admitted Attorney or Advocate with strong experience in disciplinary processes, legal drafting, compliance, and governance frameworks.

Role Overview

The Legal Advisor will provide legal support across member discipline, legislative advisory, governance, and compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and best practice within a professional body environment.

Key Responsibilities

Member Discipline & Legal Proceedings

• Register and manage formal complaints and disciplinary cases
• Maintain accurate case files, registers, and legal documentation
• Support and coordinate disciplinary proceedings and hearings
• Prepare case briefs and legal documentation
• Liaise with external attorneys and disciplinary committees
• Ensure strict confidentiality and compliance with legal protocols
• Monitor relevant matters via public and social media sources

Legal Advisory & Legislative Support

• Provide legal advice on professional body regulations and SAQA-related matters
• Monitor and analyse legislation, regulatory developments, and policy changes
• Draft legal commentary and submissions on draft legislation
• Support governance and compliance initiatives

Contracts, Governance & Compliance

• Draft, review and amend MOUs, SLAs and legal agreements
• Assist with Board governance processes and elections compliance
• Ensure adherence to corporate governance frameworks and internal policies
• Support labour law compliance and policy development
• Draft and update internal policies and procedures

Executive Support

• Assist the CEO with legal documentation, reports, and briefing notes
• Provide legal input on strategic and governance matters

Minimum Requirements

• LLB degree (non-negotiable)
• Admitted Attorney or Advocate (non-negotiable)
• Experience in legal advisory, compliance, or disciplinary processes
• Strong experience in legal drafting (contracts, policies, legal documents)
• Knowledge of corporate governance and regulatory frameworks
• Understanding of labour law and professional body environments advantageous
