Sourcing Engineer, Up to $7.5K

Job Description

Responsible to support and implement overall Sourcing strategy. Achieve year-on-year improvements by executing local, regional and global supply chain projects and initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align on business requirements and implement sourcing and commodity strategies.

Acts as technical interface between suppliers and Business Units & Engineering, specifically on alternate sourcing, alternate material/process development and quality issues resolution. Develop and execute supplier development programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 

Commodity Management

• Contribute to and execute sourcing strategies on assigned commodities with regional commodity leads.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (global Sourcing team, Engineering, Operations, Business Units, Quality, etc.) in executing these strategies.
• Participate and support Global Commodity Leads in managing global commodities.
• Source and qualify new suppliers especially in Best-Cost-Country (BCC) in line with commodities strategy.
• Drive relentless improvements in quality, delivery and cost to meet SSO and business targets and initiatives.
• Keep abreast of design, product and market requirements from Business Units and in turn share market and suppliers’ developments.

Supplier Management and Development

• Able to assess suppliers’ technical competencies and capabilities – match suppliers’ strength to technical & quality requirements and influence BU/Engineering on suppliers’ selection.
• Understand and establish supply chain requirements e.g. production vs delivery lotsize, production vs delivery leadtime, etc) with suppliers to meet operational requirements
• Develop and execute supplier development programs (e.g. leadtime reduction, process improvement).
• Support Value-Engineering-Value-Analysis (VAVE) initiatives – engage suppliers & BU/Engineering to collaborate on continuous cost/design improvements
• Track and implement action plans to continuously improve Strategic Sourcing Key Performance Indicators (KPI) as well as support manufacturing locations regionally and globally.
• Participate with Commodity Leads in business reviews with strategic and critical suppliers involving relevant stakeholders.

Attract, Develop, and Retain Talent.

• Continually review and explore development opportunities.
• Facilitate and conduct information sharing to global commodity team as well as and relevant stakeholders to enhance collaboration and adoption of best-practices.

Continuous Improvements.

• Continually review supply base ; source & develop new and potential suppliers specifically in BCC to support the business requirements.
• Facilitate and conduct Kaizen events (e.g. sourcing workshops) to continuously build up the savings funnel to achieve year-on-year savings target.
• Identify strategic sourcing best practices and drive these best practices into the strategic sourcing toolkit and sourcing strategies.

Thorough Familiarity with Company Policies and Procedures.

• Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws.
• Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14000, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the information network.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Possess Engineering degree or technical background.
• Experience and continual success in achieving net deflation and productivity is required.
• Experience in project management required.
• Experience in the development and management of the sourcing preferably in both multi-site management responsibility and multi-commodity responsibility.
• Regional sourcing experience in Asia Pacific highly preferred.
• Travel : up to  50% (domestic &regional/ international)
• For Senior position, minimum of 5 years of progressive sourcing responsibilities with extensive exposure across multiple commodities and regions.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

Functional

• Broad knowledge and exposure in managing direct material Electronics commodities (e.g. semi-conductors, PCBs, cable assemblies)
• Possess well-rounded knowledge in strategic sourcing, supply chain, manufacturing and operational procurement.
• Exposure in high-mix low-volume (HMLV) environment preferred.
• Proved track record as a competent technical interface in engaging suppliers and Engineering.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing in production environment and experience in implementing Kanban/Consignment systems highly preferred.

• Good experience on communication, negotiation and presentation skills at local, regional and global levels.
• Good experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams (Sourcing, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Business Units).
• Appreciate cultural sensitivity to manage relationships across global boundaries and time zones
• Understands and appreciates internal & external customers.

Business

• Good knowledge of the marketplace conditions for a broad range of commodities including technology trend, supply & demand dynamics, supplier analysis, pricing and development including bench-marking
• Results-oriented with strong business acumen.
