Vice President Research and Development

Job Overview:

The Vice President of Research & Development (VP of R&D) will lead and manage the company's research and development initiatives. This executive role involves driving innovation, developing new products, and improving existing products to meet market demands. The VP of R&D will oversee the R&D team, manage the R&D budget, and collaborate with other departments to ensure the successful development and commercialization of new technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategy and Vision:

  • Develop and implement the R&D strategy aligned with the company’s business objectives.
  • Identify and prioritize research initiatives and projects to drive innovation and growth.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape.

• Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing R&D team.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage R&D resources, including budget, personnel, and infrastructure.

• Research and Innovation:

  • Oversee the development of new products and technologies from concept to market.
  • Ensure rigorous testing and validation of new products and processes.
  • Promote and support the protection of intellectual property through patents and other means.

• Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, marketing, and sales.
  • Communicate R&D strategy and progress to stakeholders, including the executive team and board of directors.
  • Foster partnerships with external research organizations, universities, and industry consortia.

• Compliance and Quality:

  • Ensure all R&D activities comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and safety in all R&D operations.
  • Implement best practices in project management and product development processes.

• Performance and Metrics:

  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for R&D projects.
  • Analyze data to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure R&D projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Qualifications:

• Education:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.

• Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in R&D or a related field.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership in R&D, including product development and innovation.
  • Experience in managing large, multidisciplinary teams and R&D budgets.
