Roles and responsibilities
Develop and maintain WordPress websites, including custom themes and plugins
Customise existing WordPress themes and optimise website performance
Ensure website functionality, security, and responsiveness across different devices and browsers
Integrate third-party APIs and services into WordPress sites
Perform regular updates and maintenance of WordPress core, themes, and plugins
Implement SEO best practices in WordPress development
Collaborate with designers to translate mockups into functional WordPress themes
Use version control systems like Git to manage and track changes in the codebase
Troubleshoot and resolve WordPress-related issues and bugs
Write clean, well-commented, and maintainable code adhering to WordPress coding standards
Optimise images and assets for web performance
Implement SEO-friendly code structure and practices
Essential Technical Skills
WordPress: Proficient in core WordPress development, including theme and plugin development. Experience: 4+ years
PHP: Strong knowledge of PHP, particularly in the context of WordPress development. Experience: 4+ years
HTML5/CSS3: Advanced skills in creating structured, semantic, and responsive layouts. Experience: 4+ years
JavaScript/jQuery: Solid understanding of JavaScript and jQuery for enhancing WordPress functionality. Experience: 3+ years
WordPress REST API: Knowledge of working with the WordPress REST API. Experience: 2+ years
Git: Proficiency in version control using Git. Experience: 2+ years
Responsive Design: Experience in creating mobile-friendly WordPress sites. Experience: 3+ years
WordPress Coding Standards: Thorough knowledge and application of official WordPress coding standards. Experience: 3+ years
Essential Experience:
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug WordPress issues
Experience with popular WordPress plugins and frameworks (e.g., WooCommerce, Advanced Custom Fields)
Understanding of WordPress coding standards and best practices
Knowledge of SEO principles and their application in WordPress development
Ability to optimise WordPress sites for performance and speed, including image optimization
Good communication skills to interact with clients and team members
Attention to detail in both code quality and visual implementation
Willingness to stay updated with the latest WordPress trends and technologies
Experience with integrating third-party APIs into WordPress sites
Proficiency in writing clean, well-commented, and SEO-friendly code
Familiarity with image optimization techniques for web performance
Experience in implementing structured data and other SEO-enhancing code elements
