Assembles precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components. Assembles, repairs, modifies and installs various power plants and drive trains. Perform soldering on electronic and avionics products. Assembles and installs wire harnesses and avionics products. Prepares test articles, fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests. Performs basic organic chemical conversion and paint preparation. Applies routine organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements. Works on articles of limited complexity following established drawings and requirements.
Project / Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Work in a Safety/FOD-sensitive environment on man-rated spaceflight hardware that includes foreign-object-debris (FOD) sensitive and fracture-critical components. Maintain a clean-as-you-go discipline.
Operate in Controlled Work Areas (CWA) handling components with varying precision-cleanliness requirements for precision-clean hardware (e.g., oxygen, hydrogen, helium systems).
Read and interpret specifications, process documents, engineering 2D drawings, and 3D CAD models to fabricate structural, mechanical, and electrical components; perform layout, machining, assembly, wiring, and testing of parts and subassemblies.
Install and service sensitive electronic devices, avionics sensors, and instrumentation; perform soldering, crimping, and splicing of small-gauge wiring (e.g., accelerometers, strain gauges, harnesses).
Use hand and power tools, precision measuring equipment, and fabrication machinery (e.g., drills, saws, presses); perform soldering, crimping, and wiring as required.
Build and validate prototypes and small production runs; perform fit checks, functional tests, and troubleshooting to ensure compliance with design intent.
Maintain part and process documentation, follow quality and safety procedures, and log test and assembly results.
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and project leads to resolve design or manufacturability issues and support continuous improvement.
Work on various access and work platforms, at heights, on mobile equipment, and in confined spaces in a dynamic environment that changes with product needs.
Participate in daily FOD walks, 5S compliance activities, and tool control procedures.
Perform work in an AS9100-certified production environment.
Use calibrated precision measuring devices and report any nonconformances identified or caused.
Required Skills (top 3)
Mechanical aptitude strong hands-on skills with tools, fixtures, and mechanical systems; comfortable performing precise measurements and mechanical troubleshooting.
CAD literacy ability to review and interpret 2D drawings and 3D CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to guide fabrication and assembly decisions.
Relevant mechanical or electrical experience in FOD-sensitive environments experience in automotive, military, aerospace, or similar ruggedized systems, with familiarity with mechanical assemblies, tolerances, and rugged component requirements.
Preferred Skills (top 3)
Military experience current or former service that demonstrates discipline, familiarity with military standards/procedures, and experience in structured, safety-critical environments.
3+ years in a field of Fabrication / Assembly / Electrical instrumentation experience proven experience in metalwork, wiring/ECU integration, or mechanical assembly, including soldering, riveting, welding, or sheet-metal work.
Team collaboration strong communication skills and experience working in fast-paced, cross-functional project teams.
