Tax Senior/Manager

We are seeking trustworthy candidates who work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a developing accountant to use and build upon their experience! The position offers significant opportunities for growth, in both compensation and accounting skill development.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Review of tax returns and related filings along with the related working papers for Compilation Engagements, Review Engagements and Audited year-end financial statements
• Government reporting (GST/HST, payroll, EHT, etc.…)
• Preparation and Review of Personal, Corporate, and Trust Income Tax returns
• T3, T4, T5, T5013, NR4 preparation, etc..
• Communication with CRA such as, capital dividend election, CRA reviews, voluntary disclosures
• Preparation of Trust returns and related distributions
• Tax planning as needed including special projects such as corporate reorganizations, purchase and sale transactions, etc.…
• Responding to clientele inquires/requests with added value
• Providing advice and training to other staff members
• Other responsibilities and projects as required.

A successful candidate will have:

• CPA designation & In-Depth Tax Course(s) or MTax (preferred, but not required, with equivalent experience)
• A minimum of 8+ years’ experience in public accounting primarily in a tax-related role
• Strong knowledge of corporate, personal, and trust tax and year-end preparation
• Passion for an increasing knowledge base in business and taxation
• Will be one of the Firm’s Subject Matter Tax Experts to support other Partners & Sr. Managers
• Strong knowledge of Taxprep and Microsoft Office
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong time-management, including the ability to manage conflicting priorities.

• Honesty, integrity, promptness and ethical behavior 

Salary Expectation: $125,000 - $170,000 (*Commensurate with experience & reviewed annually based on performance) Group Benefits package, RSP plan with company-matching and inclusion in the Firm’s annual bonus plan is also available. 

A serious candidate will need to have almost all of the requirements on this list, in addition to:

• Superior communication skills
• Ideally a home location that is not an overly burdensome commute to Markham
• Able to work the required extended hours during tax season (ie.  55 plus hours / week in March and April)
• Able to be independently client-facing
• Given the experience requirement, someone over age 40 is probably best
• If they can build, manage and mentor a team, that is helpful.  But if they just want to do tax work without formal supervisory responsibility, that’s OK too.
• Does not have ambition to be a Partner.
