The Client:
Our client, a leader in payment-processing technologies and financial solutions for merchants and financial institutions in Cyprus, is looking to recruit a Legal Advisor for its Legal Affairs' department based in Nicosia.
The Position:
The ideal candidate will report to the CFO and will play a key role in supporting the company’s legal and regulatory obligations, providing expert advice on a wide range of legal matters relating to payments, contracts and competition law, data protection and regulatory compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitor, interpret, and analyse applicable laws, regulations, and directives relevant to the company’s operations, including payments legislation, financial services framework, data protection, employment law, anti-money laundering and sanctions and competition law.
Provide legal advice and support to management and internal departments on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters.
Draft, review and negotiate a variety of legal documents, contracts and regulatory correspondence.
Manage the company’s contractual arrangements, including maintaining accurate records, tracking key terms and ensuring timely renewals or terminations.
Carry out company administration duties, including preparing and submitting filings to the Registrar of Companies.
Conduct legal research and prepare written opinions or guidance on legal issues impacting the business.
Review and draft formal correspondence and material to be shared with clients, vendors, regulators, and other third parties, ensuring legal accuracy and clarity.
Liaise and coordinate with external legal advisors on complex matters, litigation, or specialised legal areas.
Assist in the identification and mitigation of legal risks and contribute to internal policy development and compliance initiatives.
Maintain and communicate up-to-date knowledge of developments in relevant areas of law and ensure internal awareness and adaptation where necessary.
Skills - Qualifications – Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB).
Completion of the Cyprus Bar exams.
A postgraduate degree in Law (LLM), or other relevant professional qualification will be considered an advantage.
Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience.
Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents and commercial agreements.
Strong legal research skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in Greek and English.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in legal drafting and contract management.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research databases; experience with legal and contract management tools will be considered an advantage.
Experience in the below will be considered as an advantage:
Working in or advising payment institutions, electronic money institutions, or other regulated financial entities.
Prior experience in corporate, financial services law, and regulatory frameworks applicable to payment institutions.
Familiarity with European regulatory frameworks such as PSD2, DORA, AML Directives, and GDPR.
Familiarity with company administration tasks, including Registrar of Companies filings.
Prior experience in regulatory filings and correspondence with the Central Bank of Cyprus or other supervisory authorities.
Exposure to legal tech tools or contract lifecycle management systems.
Prior in-house legal experience, demonstrating business-oriented legal advice.
Additional certifications in compliance or data protection will be considered as an advantage
Location: The position is for the Client’s offices in Nicosia, Cyprus.
