Department: EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Industry: API Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
To lead and manage all Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) functions at the API manufacturing site, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, promoting a strong safety culture, and minimizing environmental impact and workplace risks.
Ensure compliance with local, national, and international EHS regulations (e.g., Pollution Control Board, Factory Act, OSHA standards where applicable).
Manage statutory approvals, renewals, and reporting (Consent to Operate, Hazardous Waste Authorization, etc.).
Liaise with government authorities and external agencies.
Oversee operation and compliance of:
Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP)
Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)
Air pollution control systems (scrubbers, stacks)
Monitor emissions, effluents, and waste disposal practices.
Drive sustainability initiatives (water conservation, energy efficiency, waste minimization).
Develop and implement safety policies, SOPs, and risk assessments (HIRA, HAZOP, JSA).
Ensure safe handling of hazardous chemicals, solvents, and intermediates.
Conduct safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
Lead emergency preparedness (on-site emergency plan, mock drills).
Implement industrial hygiene programs.
Monitor employee exposure to chemicals, solvents, and dust.
Coordinate health check-ups and medical surveillance programs.
Ensure compliance with process safety management (PSM) practices.
Conduct HAZOP/What-if studies for new and existing processes.
Evaluate risks in solvent handling, reactions, and scale-up activities.
Conduct EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
Promote a proactive safety culture and behavioral safety programs.
Ensure contractor safety management.
Lead internal and external audits (ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
Ensure audit readiness for regulatory and client inspections.
Drive closure of audit observations.
Maintain EHS records, MIS reports, and compliance documentation.
Report KPIs (TRIR, LTIFR, near misses, environmental metrics).
Digitization of EHS systems (if applicable).
Lead and develop EHS team members.
Collaborate with Production, QA, Engineering, and HR departments.
Support management in strategic EHS initiatives.
