LIFTING ENGINEER
REQUIREMENTS
• MANDATORY Lifting Engineer shall hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or its
equivalent with minimum of 10 years of experience.
• MANDATORY A total of 7 years' experience in Lifting and Rigging to include
Heavy Lift experience in the Oil and Gas industry
• MANDATORY At least 2 years’ experience creating Heavy complex lifting and
rigging drawings in AutoCAD
• Knowledge of all lifting equipment and various crane types.
• Working Experience in Offshore jacket/topside/Riser tower fabrication Yard
/ Installation project preferred
• Experience in Supervision of critical and heavy lifts
• Expertise in developing Auto Cad Lifting plans for Critical and Non-Routine Lifts.
• Experience in planning and execution of overall lifting activities in Major
Turnarounds, TA, plant shutdowns. Should have experience in handling minimum
crew size of 200-300per shift with multi-cultural resources.
• Experience in preparing critical, non-routine& routine lifting plans using
conventional lifting equipment’s and Manual rigging arrangements.
• Hands own experience in rigging job execution, should be worked as rigger,
supervisor, coordinator, Rigging Engineer.
• Preferred engineering Degree or relevant experience subject to Shell Lifting
Department Approval.
• A functional knowledge of AutoCAD, with the skill to produce detailed and technical
AutoCAD lifting and rigging plot plans and studies to scale.
• Expert knowledge in lifting equipment, lifting equipment selection for procurement
and task, lifting equipment inspection and lifting equipment devaluation
calculations
• A thorough understanding of the testing requirements for lifting equipment including
but not limited to vendor lifting lugs and trunnions.
• Expert Knowledge of all lifting and crane standards applicable to Qatar and
turnaround.
• Expert Knowledge of lifting using Mobile Crane's, Overhead Cranes, Gantry Crane's
both Fixed and Trolley, Chain Blocks, Tirfors, Jacking and Skating, Fork Truck, and
Man-lifts. Boom Truck Including any devaluations.
• Knowledge of all projects, Lifting and HSE standards and requirements. (It will be
accepted that a new employee to the site will require some time to familiarize
himself with the standards and HSSE requirements of the site).
• Fluent in English Reading, Writing and Speaking (IELTS 8 equivalent).
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Heavy rigging experience is required
• Strong understanding of rigging principles
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Preparation of Lifting plans as per the site verification using AUTOCAD and
submitting lifting-plans packages with all relevant documents for client approval as
per the Company Lifting Procedure.
• Promote Safe Handling and Lifting Operations referring to Company HSE policy and
international standards.
• Assess, analyze, plan and execute lifting operations on site in line with Company
standards
• Verify lifting equipment requirements through a review of the scope of work
• Responsible for lifting equipment se lection, procurement and ensure all lifting
equipment meets the required standards.
• Ensure all documentation required for lifting and rigging has been processed and
correct in order for the lifting and rigging to proceed
• Produce Lifting and Rigging Method Statements, Plot Plans Rigging Studies, Heavy
Lift and Critical Lift packs
• Ensure compliance with QSGTL policies and procedure related to Lifting and rigging
• Ensure safety critical elements are maintained
• Competent at assessing the lifting and rigging employees under his jurisdiction
• Supervise 3rd party inspections of CONTRACTOR owned, operated or hired cranes,
lifting equipment including boom truck and forklifts (or any lifting equipment under
CONTRACTOR control)
• Ensure all equipment is faultless before requesting Shell inspections of the
equipment.
• Monitoring of the ongoing lifting operations at site to ensure best industry practices
are being carried out and legislative practices are met.
• Maintain a systematic and methodological approach to the Lifting Operations.
• Ensure lifting equipment which is used for all the execution of all lifting activities has
the required capacity for the safe execution of the lifting operation.
• Participates in the Coaching, Mentoring, and Training of Rigging Supervisor, Rigging
• Foreman, and Riggers.
• To be involved in planning internal audits of the lifting operations participates in
lifting operations incident investigation and analyses
• Lead the lifting teams at the Site, towards safe work practice and ensure lifting
operations are held safely, considering all hazards and corresponding controls
