Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, technically proficient and results-oriented Group Financial Controller to oversee the financial management, accounting, reporting and control functions of a group comprising four companies.

The ideal candidate should have strong technical accounting skills, hands-on experience with SAP and ERP systems, and the ability to leverage technology and AI tools to improve financial reporting, operational efficiency and decision-making.

The candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrate leadership and initiative, and be capable of liaising effectively with banks, government institutions, auditors, tax authorities and other external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1. Group Accounting and Financial Management

• Oversee the complete accounting and financial management functions of all four group companies.
• Manage monthly, quarterly and annual financial closures and ensure timely finalisation of accounts.
• Prepare and review financial statements, including Profit & Loss Accounts, Balance Sheets and Cash Flow Statements.
• Ensure consistency in accounting policies, procedures and internal controls across the group.
• Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors, tax consultants and other professional advisers.

2. SAP, ERP and Technology

• Possess strong, hands-on experience in SAP and other ERP-based accounting and financial management systems.
• Ensure accurate financial data, proper system configuration, effective data migration and reliable financial reporting.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes through automation, system integration and technology.
• Design and implement appropriate financial controls and reporting processes within the ERP system.
• Troubleshoot system-related accounting and reporting issues and coordinate with IT teams and system consultants.

3. Management Reporting and Financial Analysis

• Design, develop and generate comprehensive monthly management reports directly from the ERP system.
• Prepare monthly financial performance reports, budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections and variance analyses.
• Monitor sales, gross margins, operating expenses, working capital, inventory, receivables and payables.
• Provide meaningful financial analysis, identify business risks and recommend corrective actions to management.
• Develop dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support timely and informed business decisions.

4. Use of AI and Digital Tools

• Demonstrate the ability and willingness to use AI tools and modern digital applications to improve productivity and efficiency.
• Apply AI and data analytics tools for financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, reconciliation and identification of unusual transactions.
• Identify opportunities to automate routine accounting and reporting tasks while maintaining data confidentiality and appropriate financial controls.

5. Taxation, Statutory Compliance and External Liaison

• Ensure timely compliance with applicable tax laws, GST obligations, statutory filings and other regulatory requirements in Papua New Guinea.
• Liaise effectively with government departments, tax authorities, banks, financial institutions, auditors and other external stakeholders.
• Manage tax assessments, audits, reconciliations and related correspondence in coordination with management and external advisers.
• Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements and maintain proper financial records and documentation.

6. Treasury, Working Capital and Internal Controls

• Monitor cash flow, banking facilities, foreign exchange requirements and overall liquidity.
• Oversee bank reconciliations, receivables, payables and working capital management.
• Strengthen internal controls, minimise financial and operational risks, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
• Establish appropriate procedures to improve financial discipline, accountability and operational efficiency across the group.

Qualifications and Experience

• CA (Chartered Accountant), ICWA/CMA (Cost and Management Accountant), or M.Com.
• 8–10 years of relevant experience in senior finance and accounting positions.
• Experience in a group finance role managing multiple companies will be a significant advantage.
• Strong practical experience in SAP or a comparable ERP system is essential.
• Experience in group financial consolidation, management reporting, budgeting, taxation and statutory compliance.
• Candidates with experience in trading, distribution, wholesale or multi-entity business operations will be preferred.
