Position: Business Unit Head - Plant Head for Solvent Extraction Plant ( Soya & Sunflower )

Location: Lira , Uganda  ( 350 Kms from Kampala )

Reported by : No. of Direct staff : 5 - 8 people including Manufacturing Manager + Commercials + Buyers & sellers for Seed

Reporting to :Director / COO 

Job Summary:

The Plant Head will be responsible for leading end-to-end operations of the Soyabean & Sunflower Solvent Extraction Plant, including production, maintenance, utilities, quality, commercial coordination, procurement support, dispatch planning, and overall plant profitability. The role requires strong expertise in solvent extraction operations along with commercial acumen to manage plant costs, vendor coordination, inventory, and operational efficiency.

This potential candidate shall have Commercial Acumen + Technical Knowhow about all production related + Buying Grains and looking all over the plant + commercials.

Key Responsibilities:

Plant Operations

• Lead overall plant operations including seed preparation, solvent extraction, oil recovery, meal handling, refinery coordination, and utilities.
• Ensure achievement of production targets with optimum capacity utilization.
• Monitor extraction efficiency, oil yield, solvent losses, and production KPIs.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and reduce downtime.

Commercial & Supply Chain Management

• Oversee commercial activities related to procurement coordination, inventory control, dispatch planning, and vendor management.
• Coordinate with procurement teams for timely sourcing of soyabean, sunflower seeds, chemicals, packing materials, and consumables.
• Monitor raw material consumption, stock reconciliation, and plant-level commercial controls.
• Ensure proper documentation related to inward, outward, billing coordination, weighbridge, and logistics.

• Support management in budgeting, costing, profitability analysis, and cost optimization initiatives.

Production & Process Management

• Ensure smooth processing operations as per quality and production standards.

• Optimize process parameters to maximize oil recovery and minimize wastage.

• Maintain production MIS, operational reports, and process documentation

Maintenance & Utilities

• Oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance of plant machinery and utilities.
• Ensure efficient functioning of boilers, ETP, electrical systems, conveyors, and extraction equipment.
• Plan annual shutdowns and maintenance schedules.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to food safety standards, pollution control norms, and statutory compliance.
• Implement SOPs, GMP, HACCP, and safety systems across the plant.
• Ensure compliance with factory laws, safety audits, and environmental regulations.

Team Management

• Lead and mentor production, maintenance, commercial, stores, and utility teams.
• Drive accountability, discipline, and performance management across departments.
• Build a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Desired Candidate Profile:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Oil Technology or related field.
• 15+ years of experience in edible oil manufacturing or solvent extraction plants.
• Strong exposure to Soyabean & Sunflower extraction processes along with commercial operations.
• Experience in handling plant operations, procurement coordination, inventory, dispatch, and cost management.
• Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities.

Net of Tax Salary  

Family Accommodation with Basic Furnishing & Utilities. 

Electricity, Water paid by Company.

All other personal expenses are to be borne by self.

NSSF - (similar to PF ) Company contribution is over & above the Salary. 

Tickets to India, After a Year with leave for Bachelor status / Family status - Once after 2 years .
